Dear Street

Dear Street is an ode to gratitude, city life, and the ways in which we choose to enrich our communities.

Alice lives on a vibrant street – a street with so much going on that people often find a reason to complain and grumble about the noise and the busy, and forget to slow down and appreciate the small things. So, she decides to hide notes of appreciation around the neighborhood for others to find. But like most people, Alice finds that even she can’t always choose positivity, and when she has a “low day,” she needs someone else to be a voice of gratitude.

The illustrations are lovely – just like each new day in a city, each page has something unique to observe. The diverse characters of the neighborhood — an old lady carrying her dog, an annoyed man checking his watch, the lady with the cool boots, a couple having an argument on a bench in the park, and on and on — all bring their own energy to the world, just like a real community. I appreciate that it’s not solely about the ways we can give to our world and appreciate it, but the times that we need to rely on it as well.

I like it! I’m always in search of books that depict city and community life, so a big thanks to @kidscanpress for sending me a copy. Opinions are my own.
